I love this city.

Megan made a comment on one of my recent posts about how fun it must be to live in/near the city...pretty ironic I was thinking about starting this post maybe an hour before I read her comment. Great minds think alike! ;)

J and I actually live smack between two cities-Indianapolis and Cincinnati. Both cities are fun-don't get me wrong. But Indy has a special place in my heart.

Here are a few reasons why:

Just take a look at this skyline. Actually..this is old. See that building with the white dome on it? That is "The Dome" or the RCA Dome as it was officially called..the original home of the Indianapolis Colts. THE home of the Colts. The place where we paved our way to our Super Bowl win. The place where I skipped class to go to the Super Bowl trophy presentation. I LOVED THAT PLACE.

You also see new home of the Colts. Lucas Oil Stadium. The stadium is breath taking. Watching a game there is INCREDIBLE. Concerts there..well, they're incredible now...before concerts there sucked. The sound was off and static filled. Not fun. But they fixed it...in time for Kenny Chesney and Tim McGraw next summer!!!

You can't see it in this picture but to the left of Lucas Oil is Victory Field-home of the Indianapolis Indians. Jon and I love going to games there in the summer. It's super cheap and so much fun!

There's also The Canal downtown. It's a beautiful canal that runs through the middle of the city...you can walk down it. It's GORGEOUS! It takes you up by the Indiana State Museum and the NCAA Hall of Champions. My old roommate Jesska and I took many walks on the Canal. It's amazing!

Restaurants downtown are the BEST!! Just to name a few we have-PF Chang's...incredible! We also have Tapas which I just recently found this year and I can't wait to go back! We also have an Old Spaghetti Factory downtown, as well. And a new favorite sushi place of mine is called 45 Degrees which is located on Mass Ave (more on that below). But our favorite restaurant is...

Bazbeaux..otherwise known as Heaven on Earth! It's a pizza place on Mass Ave (which is a diagonal street filled with shops, bars, and restaurants!) The pizza is incredible, but I go there solely for their house salad with creamy cucumber dressing! My mouth drools as I'm even thinking about it.

The center of the city holds Monument Circle...which is beautiful by itself. But Christmas time...oh my gosh...just look:

World's Largest Christmas Tree...only there's no tree. But hey, it's gorgeous! And there's a South Bend Chocolate Company on the Circle where you can get hot chocolate and then walk around. You can see the candy cane pillars and the nutcrackers that surround the monument as well. They always light it the day after Thanksgiving and it's a huge deal in the city-complete with fireworks!

So there you have it-my favorite spots in Indy! There are so many other places-I haven't even touched on the amazing-ness that is Broad Ripple..which isn't downtown. But it's amazing..full of great bars, great food, and cute shops! But that's another story for another day!

Oh and did I mention something pretty awesome is going to be taking place in Indy in a few short months.....

A Glimpse into our Household: Planning Get Togethers

Today was Thanksgiving at our house for my side of the family. It took some planning but it went really well!

Of course, planning was completely necessary when it comes to any kind of get together.

Here's how I planned it out:

Beginning of the month: I sent out an email to my sister asking what dates would work for her. Then, we worked out a menu and a time to have everyone over. We also figured out who was bringing and making what.

2 weeks prior: Worked up a time line as to when things needed to be done.

1 week prior: Make out grocery list. Figure out where to set things up.

4 days prior: Grocery shop

1 day prior: Make what can be made ahead of time. (I made the cookies yesterday.)

Day of: Prep as much ahead of time as possible. Execute plan. Enjoy!! Clean up!

My Biggest Tips:

*Give your house a quick clean the day before. Pick up any clutter, vacuum, sweep, wipe down your bathroom. It's the little things that make a big difference!

*Clean as you go!! It makes things so much easier...and it doesn't crowd your counter top with dirty dishes!

*Make timelines and lists. Break it down day-to-day so it doesn't seem over whelming.

*Enjoy the meal and your guests! Make memories that will last a lifetime. :)

*After everyone leaves, clean up! Right then. Don't put it off!

Just a little preview of this weekend in pictures...

Thankful Thursday Part 3

My roommates

Mel

My Jesska

And Linds (no pic..can you believe that?!)

I was blessed to live with some amazing girl in college. I still talk to these three quite a bit. I think we were put in each other's lives for a reason. I couldn't make it through day to day without these girls. I love them dearly.

Our House

I love working on our house and making it our home! It looks so different now than in this picture! We've worked so hard on it and we're both so proud of it!!

I'm also thankful for:

*Starbucks
*Coupons
*Days off
*One Tree Hill
*A clean house
*Our bed!!!!

Marriage's Little Secrets

Jon and I have been married for 2 years, 3 months, and 8 days. I'm not a professional at being a wife. I learn new things every day.

But it's sad to me that some people we've graduated with have already been married and divorced since J and I got married.

It got me thinking about what I think makes our marriage different. What is it that makes us work?

Here are my suggestions/observations:

*Fight it out. If you don't agree with one another, that's okay. If two people are exactly the same with exactly the same view points on every single thing-that's boring, if you ask me!

*Support each other. It's sounds so simple, but it's true. If you can't lean on your spouse, who can you lean on?

*Communicate openly. About everything, no matter if it's dinner options or when you want to start a family. Even if you don't agree, it's important that you know where each other stands and thinks on a subject.

*Have fun!! Jon and I always make a point to have fun together and do something aside from just sitting at home. We have so many memories together and I can't wait to make more!

What are your secrets?

New Doctor's Appointment

Welcome to Three Post Thursday! Time to catch up on some blogging I haven't had time for yet this week.

I left my doctor's appointment yesterday feeling completely positive and reassured.

I'm temping/OPK'ing for the next 3+ months. (However long we want to wait really...but he recommends 3 months.) He wants to track my chart for awhile. Since I got pregnant the second cycle off BCP and the first cycle we could after MC #1 he wants to make sure I ovulate when I should and that my cycles are regular.

He said he has looked at all my tests and sees no reason why we shouldn't be able to have a healthy baby, but he will monitor me continue to monitor me closely. He said he can check on a few hormone deficiencies by my temping.

He also told me he has seen more people have two miscarriages in a row as opposed to people who have only had one.

That made me feel SO MUCH BETTER!

God is great. Beer is good. People are crazy.

Two years ago my life changed forever.

I was so excited to go to the Luke Bryan concert. I had VIP passes to meet him. I was STOKED!

I happened to look at my phone about 10 minutes before I was supposed to line up to meet him. I had 10 missed calls. And a text message from my friend Cort: "Kar...call me. Something's wrong. It's about Troy."

I went to the bathroom to call her. My phone went off as I was dialing her number. It was one of my guy friends. I answered and heard nothing but crying. I kept asking what's wrong? What's wrong?

Then I heard it, "Kar...Troy was in an accident. He didn't make it."

I hung up. I didn't say anything...I just hung up.

I called Troy's number. Straight to voicemail-so I left one. Two minutes later, I leave another one. And another one. And another one.

At this point, I have about 15 text messages. Finally, I call one of my guy friends who is a cop in our town. He answered the phone by saying,"Kar.....I can't believe this."

It finally hit me. This was really happening. One of my boys...MY BOYS...was gone.

I spent the next 45 minutes in the bathroom returning phone calls and text messages and crying. Then it hit me. Shit. Jon was still outside waiting for me to come back. He had left his phone in the car. He had no idea.

I mustered up enough courage to walk out-eyes puffy and blood shot. Music was playing over the speakers...Billy Currington's "People are Crazy" was playing.

Jon looks at me and says,"Babe...what's wrong?" I tried to tell him. But it ended up sounding like some sort of weird broken English.

We decided...Jon decided really to stay at the concert. The last time we saw Troy was just a few days before. I kept telling him about the concert and he said,"Tell Luke I said hi for me!"

I can't tell you much of the concert. I have a picture of me meeting Luke but I don't remember what I said to him or what he said to me.

I cried the whole way home.

The next two days I was a mess. I slept the entire two days. I ignored phone calls and text messages. I just didn't want to talk to anyone.

Monday came and I went to work. I was only working three hours...then I was meeting my friend Paul to go to the showing. I cried a lot that day at work. I work in a small town-the same town I grew up in...every one knew.

At 11:00 I got up to leave and someone said,"Kari...someone's here to see you."
"I don't care...I'm going home."
"I think you care..."

I looked over. It was Cort. She drove home from North Carolina. I cried. A lot. Just hugged her and cried.

We went to the showing with Paul and a few other guys. We walked in..."People are Crazy" started playing. Let the tears flow.

I drank my weight in alcohol that night. Stupid, yeah. But I didn't care.

The next day was the funeral. They played that song again. More tears.

For months, every time I heard that song I cried.

This summer, Jon and I went to see Kenny Chesney. Billy Currington opened for him. He played the last song...People are Crazy. I cried so hard.

I still have days where it hurts. I miss him every day. I miss going into the bars and hearing,"KKKKKKKKKARRRRRRRRRRRRIIIIIIIIIIIIII!!!!!!" That song gives me so much comfort now...if I'm having a bad day--hearing that song makes me smile. :)

Two years ago, my life changed forever. But I'm a better person for knowing Troy. We went a year without talking which I will always regret...but I know that at the end of the day, he was my friend, my brother, and the best damn basketball player I know! ;)

Miss you,TAH! Love you, bud!

"We all have a song that's somehow stamped our lives. It takes us to another place in time....I go back to the loss of a real good friend and the 16 summers of sharing with him. Now 'Only the Good Die Young' stops me in my tracks."

Master Bedroom Project-Painted!!

Here's what we started with:

Nice blue color, huh? I chose it. I picked it up from the returned pile at the hardware store in a pinch.

Thanks to Pinterest, I found two projects I fell in love with! A little DIY love and boom:

The maps are places we met, got married, and live. :)

This is my favorite project! Vases, rubber bands, and spray paint. :)

Jon and I worked today on painting and I must say...I LOVE IT!!!

View from the door. Excuse Jon's hats on the bedposts. hahaha (P.S. How cute is our new duvet cover?)

Here's a close up of the photos that are hanging above our bed. I got the lay out from Pinterest.

The floating shelf has my bouquet from the wedding, Jon's bout, and the handkerchief that I had. The shadow box has every ticket of things Jon and I have done together-concerts, movies, hotel keys, etc.

Here's another picture gallery next to our closet. I love how it turned out!

The vases you saw at the beginning of the post are on our night stands and the met, married, live picture frames are above our closet door.

Love it!

I can't wait to get new carpet! Then we'll be done!!

Thankful-Part Two

Our service men and women

They keep our country safe and we are able to have the freedoms we have because of them and the sacrifices they make for us every day.

Especially my two favorite soldiers:

My DDs

I love these girls more than I can put into words. I can't wait to see them in a few short weeks!

My job/co-workers/bosses

They are INCREDIBLE. This picture from our wedding makes me smile-you can just see how we interact with one another. It's so sweet!

Our trips this past year

Chicago-March

North and South Carolina-May

Nashville-October

I'm thankful for so many little things too!

-Weekends
-That feeling you get when it's cold outside and you walk into your warm house
-Hot chocolate
-Sweet text messages
-Waking up thinking it's almost time for the alarm to go off and realizing you still have several hours
-Taking pictures
-Making memories

More to come! What are you thankful for?

Silver Lining

We had a follow up appointment with the doctor today. As far as things go-it doesn't appear like I need surgery (DNC). What great news is that?! Silver lining of this horrible cloud.

Next Wednesday I have an appointment with a new doctor for a second opinion on the recurring miscarriages. I'm hoping we can get some answers. If not-maybe we can at least get a game plan for the next six months. I'm very hopeful for the future for Jon and I. I know we'll get our family we've always dreamed of. :) It's just going to come with the time is right-it's not for us to decide that time. :)

On a different note-our weekend is going to be SO fun!! I'll be sure to give you the rundown on Friday. And expect A LOT of pictures next week!!

Thankful Part One

In no particular order...

My Husband
This is a no brainer for me. Jon is my rock. He makes me smile and laugh every day. He gives me hugs and kisses when I need them. He's grateful for everything I do-but what he doesn't realize is how grateful I am for everything he does. He's amazing and I truly hope that everyone has someone in their life who treats them as well as Jon treats me.

Reggie Monster

I'm convinced this pup loves me unconditionally. He gets so excited when I get home from work or when I wake up. If I take a shower, the second I unlock the door I hear him bounding down the hallway to give me lovins. He's such a sweet heart and he's so damn smart. I just love him.

My mom
My mom is one of my best friends. She's the most selfless person I know. She's there for me whenever I need her. She can calm me down when I'm freaking out and she doesn't bat an eye if I ask her to go with me to the doctor or hold my hand when I'm getting bloodwork done. I'm so thankful for her!

My Best Friend

Ash and I have been best friends since our sophomore year of high school. We only knew each other in our Foods class and we've been besties ever since. She's always there for me when I need her. We don't see each other as much as we'd like to-but we make a point to have best friend dates whenever we can. And another reason she's my best friend? Because she knows me better than almost anyone. Case in point-she sent me a text today with a picture of two boxes of Pumpkin Pie Pop Tarts. (I LOVE pumpkin stuff && have looked for these FOREVER) The text said,"One for me, one for you". Love her!!

Football

I love football. NFL only...let's get that straight first. I love playing Fantasy Football. I love watching games. I find it relaxing, interesting, and fun. It's a good way for me to wind down.

Luke Bryan (Or country music in general, actually)

But I wanted to attention whore the fact that I met him and I loove him!! And Jon and I are going to see him in concert again Friday night! This may or may not be the NINTH time I've seen him in concert. If you don't have his new CD, Tanlines && Tailgates. Buy it-and thank me later!

Nestie Besties

When we started planning our wedding, I started talking to a group of girls who were getting married the same month as us. Over two years later, I still talk to these girls. I've gotten to be very good friends with several of the girls. I'm thankful for their friendships-even though we all haven't actually met-I genuinely LOVE these girls so much!! If you didn't get married in July 2009-you missed out! ;)

Faith

In the last three months, there has been one thing that keeps me going-faith. My faith. I haven't really been too in touch with that aspect of my life in the last year. I don't know why-I just stopped making it a priority. That sounds horrible, but I'm being honest. Now that I've made it a priority-I'm starting to feel better.

Thanksgiving

Like I mentioned previously, we're hosting Thanksgiving at our house in a few weeks-November 20th to be exact.

My sister, mom, and I are all cooking the meal.

So far, the menu consists of turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, corn, green beans, mac and cheese, rolls, cherry cheese cake, pumpkin pie, cookies, and cake pops. We're also going to have veggie trays and a cheese and cracker tray.

Not too shabby!

I'm in charge of the mashed potatoes, mac and cheese, cookies, and cake pops. Not too shabby!

Now--I just need to set up a game plan for this-when to cook what, when to get the house in order, etc.

Should be fun!

Note to self: Take down Halloween decorations!!

Christmas Gifts

I can't believe I'm making a post about Christmas gifts already!! I need to make a post about Thanksgiving-we're hosting it at our house this year! But...let's talk about the task at hand!

Christmas gifts!!

Tonight I sat down and wrote out everyone I (we) need to buy gifts for, what I had in mind for them, and also an amount I don't want to exceed.

I already bought a few small things so I made sure to note them and figure in how much they were. (Especially for my niece and nephews) I ended up ordering a few things tonight, too.

I'm going shopping with my best friend Thanksgiving weekend for the bulk of them.

I'm so excited for Christmas shopping! I love buying gifts and wrapping them!

I especially love buying for Jon-it's so fun to surprise him!

I'll keep you updated on how the gift buying is going-but I won't put any specifics on here-you never know who's watching (spying! ;) )!

Master Bedroom Project-Walls

Let's try to get back into the swing of things. I'm back on the bedroom project bandwagon.

I did some drawings on the computer for two of our walls.

This is our first wall where our bed sits:

Okay-the "All because.."sign is one we found at Target that I'm in love with and it served as my inspiration for the theme of the room. The 8x10s are going to be wedding photos. I'm not sure which one yet though. The 4x6's will be random pictures of us (vacations, etc). The xo's are 3 frame picture frames with pictures of us kissing. We take SO many pictures of us kissing. They're cute and sweet. This one they are framed but only WE can see them!

The next picture is of the wall with the closet door.

The heart frames are part of a Pinterest project I finished a few weeks back. (Pictures will come at the reveal!). The 8x10s are of two of our engagement pictures. The 4x6 pictures will be more pictures of us.

The theme is simply...US. It's about us and our love. I know..gag, right? But who else is really going to be in this room except us? No one. Why not make it about us?!

Thoughts?
